Help me. Help Me!
by: Shellie Garay

Help me. Help me! I feel so alone.
This place is so dark, I want to go home.
We came in this world, 8 weeks ago today.
But with “free to good home”, my siblings went away

Since no “free to good home” for me could be found
In this cardboard box I was brought to the pound.
This cage confines me, and this place is so sad.
If I don’t get a home, the outcome is bad.

How much I would love, to run and to play.
But in this cage is where I must stay.
People pass by me. With so many to choose
I am not adopted, once again I lose.

This place is getting full, and
my time is growing near.
Be glad “free to good home”
You don’t have to live here.
Today is my day. I have been here too long.
Why can’t I wait? What did I do wrong?

I know someone will want me,
It takes time you see
But I take up room,
And now I must leave.

HELP ME! HELP ME!
I died here alone.
What a shame, how sad,
I didn’t find a home.

I was ten weeks old and in the sun never played.
I came here in a box, because my mother was not spayed.

A Win for the Animals

Jan Scere is the Grand Prize Winner of the 2009 Nine Who Care Awards

Charlotte, NC - Jan Scere of Cornelius, NC – “Friends for Life LKN/Lake Norman Lucky Cat” has been named as the grand prize winner of WSOC-TV, Channel 9’s 2009 Nine Who Care Awards. Jan received the highest amount of on-line and mail-in votes from viewers which has her winning $2,000.00 for her favorite non-profit 501 ( c ) 3 charity.

“I and the volunteers at Friends for Life LKN are so thrilled to win this award for many reasons. One, we know all the people involved in animal rescue work really hard and it’s great to be recognized for that work in the community. The second is we enjoyed getting to meet new friends from other animal rescues and the other charities and also received support e-mails from all over the country, some even outside the U.S., including England and Australia. The third reason we are so grateful for winning this award, is the prize will really help us with our October spay/neuter, to get the animals ready for adoption. With the economy as it is, donations have been really down and it’s been tough to cover the vet bills! We are so thankful to Channel 9 for recognizing people who are doing special things to help our community! We had a great time and were happy to be part of this contest! Come see us at Petco Huntersville and always spay and neuter your pets,” said Jan.

The 2009 Nine Who Care Finalists who have won $900.00 to be awarded to their favorite non-profit 501 (c ) 3 organizations are: Richard Allred of Hudson, NC – “Catawba Valley Healthy Families/Appalachian State University Foundation, Inc.”, Gwendolyn Brown-Johnson of Charlotte, NC – “Parkview Community Foundation, Inc.”, Barbara Chandler of Indian Trail, NC – “Common Cupboard/Common Heart Missional Community”, Will Hern of Charlotte, NC – “Cabarrus Meals on Wheels, Inc.”, RSM McGladrey, Inc., of Charlotte, NC – “The Relatives, Inc.”, Cheryl Pletcher of Mooresville, NC – “Carolina Comfort Coalition at Serenity House” Dave Yochum of Cornelius, NC – “Big Day At The Lake/Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Charlotte” and Roger Wuest of Shelby, NC – “Council on Aging of Cleveland County, Inc.”
